Russell’s story began the way the best ones do — humbly. Starting out in Amarillo, Texas, he hit the road and honed his craft across the state, working through San Marcos and Killeen before landing in Houston where his reputation truly began to take shape. After years of building his name at respected Houston-area studios, he did what any great artist with a vision does: he opened his own. On Valentine’s Day 2013, Royal Ave Tattoo & Fine Jewelry Co. was born in Spring, TX, and it has never looked back.
Built on a foundation of award-winning Japanese and Neo-Japanese bodysuit work, Royal Ave quickly became one of the most recognized studios in the Houston area. Russell’s work has earned international recognition, with his art featured in world-renowned Australian tattoo publications. His clientele speaks for itself as well — Russell has had the honor of working with elite UFC athletes including Daniel “The Pit” Pineda and Flyweight World Champion Joshua “Fearless” Van.
Away from the studio, Russell is a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and proud third-degree brown belt, training out of Finesse Jiu-Jitsu in Spring, TX. The same discipline and precision he brings to the mat shows up in every line he lays down.

With 15 years of body piercing experience, AshLee got her start at a local shop before honing her skills at The Machine Shop Tattoo Studio in Conroe, TX. It was there that her reputation for precision and artistry began to turn heads. In 2012, her work was featured on BME — Body Modification Ezine, one of the most respected publications in the body modification world — for a technically challenging daith piercing on atypical anatomy that showcased not just her skill, but her willingness to think outside the box when standard approaches simply won’t do.
When her husband Russell set his sights on opening his own studio, AshLee didn’t hesitate. She stepped in as co-owner, partner, and the driving force behind the business side of Royal Ave — managing social media, client experience, and the creative identity that has made the shop a Houston-area staple for over 13 years.
Ask anyone who has walked through the Royal Ave door and they will tell you the same thing: AshLee is the kind of person who makes you feel at home the moment you arrive. Equal parts sharp, funny, and fiercely dedicated to her craft and her community, she brings the same intentionality to every piercing she performs and every client she welcomes.

Giving back has always been at the heart of what we do at Royal Ave. Russell and AshLee serve on the Board of Directors for The Metallic Sunflower Foundation, a Houston-area nonprofit fighting food insecurity through innovative hydroponic farming and education. Together they lead The Iron Petal Initiative, the foundation’s Spring, TX anchor program championing second-chance employment for those in recovery or post-incarceration.
